We Are 1!

November 20th is ALDJ's 1st birthday! To celebrate, Frisky Radio are hosting a 3-hour mix put together by the people who have helped make the site such a resounding success in 2006. The mixes promise to be something special, with collaborative sets between the moderators of ALDJ going to town on 3 hours of the finest music mixed up and ripped apart in Ableton Live.

Not only that, ALDJ will be running a very special DJ mix competition with the 1st prize being a cool waterproof laptop bag by Slappa, filled with goodies from Pioneer Pro DJ, Ableton, Novation & Dancetracks Digital. Watch this space for more details.

Music Live 2006 – the UK’s biggest music-making event – is set to feature a wealth of content both for keen amateur musos and those serious about playing or producing music and carving a career in the recording industry. There will be plenty of business-related advice, with the Musicians’ Union presenting a series of panel-lead seminars on topics including how to build a fanbase, advice on dealing with managers, promoters and the press, using the internet to promote music – and even a Demo Jury where visitors can have their work critiqued. MU panel members already confirmed to appear include Aubrey Nunn (Faithless), Dante Bonutto (Universal Records/Roadrunner Records consultant), Steve Beebee (Kerrang! magazine) and Big George Webley (TV music arranger, credits include The Office).

Exhibitors of interest to the Digital DJ community will including TC Electronic, Korg, Shure, Novation, M-audio, Yamaha, Arbiter, Computer Music, Sound On Sound, Digdesign, Future Music, Roland, Tascam, Studiospares and Apple will be showing the very latest in gear from electric guitars to recording hardware and software, with expert demonstrations running throughout the weekend.

The involvement of Music Live’s retail sponsor Sound Control means the event is also the perfect place to pick up a bargain, with special show deals on offer throughout the event.

Korg Kaoss Pad 3 released

Korg's Kaoss strikes back?kp3_slant

Korg update the KAOSS pad format EFX unit to include more effects & 24bit A/D conversion. More than a processor, the KP3 is a complete instrument allowing you to manage, recall, and play back samples; sample on the fly; and add dynamic processing to any audio signal or to the samples themselves. DJ's can now use the Mk3 to sync Ableton Live to CDJ's or any other source down to .1 (one-tenth) of a BPM, then sound out MIDI clock to the master sequencer.

This latest KAOSS incarnation has been completely overhauled to enhance your creativity, with significant advances in every area. New effects algorithms, synth sounds derived from our RADIAS engine, bigger and better sampling plus computer connectivity all point to the fact that the KP3 is an entirely new KAOSS instrument. A new pad lighting system places 64 individual LEDs in an eight by eight grid under the pad, providing visual cues as to the current program, held position, etc. – it can even scroll a custom message across the pad!

Expect a full review and side by side its competitors very soon @ ALDJ.com
