With the Mackie HUI™ protocol supported in the latest OS release, the ReMOTE SL series controllers from Novation become the first keyboards to automatically map to Digidesign’s Pro Tools™ software. This provides the Pro Tools user with a highly affordable solution for instantly controlling mix and edit windows, as well as playing and tweaking any soft synths in use.

In HUI mode, the ReMOTE SL allows instantaneous adjustment of track faders, mutes and solos, plus record arming and selecting, as soon as a session boots up. Owing to the large number of assignable controls on offer and the clever implementation of the protocol, it is also possible to comprehensively control all sends, track routing and panning. Furthermore, the SL offers buttons for opening and closing various windows, moving around the edit window and zooming in and out, in addition to controlling the transport of course.

In addition to rapid and stylish mixing and session navigation, the SL seamlessly controls plug-in instruments and effects; click on a plug-in in the session window and the SL’s pots and buttons can be used to edit parameters straight away. If wanting maximum separation from the computer, however, the mouse barely requires touching as any plug-ins can be selected and inserted easily from the SL, displaying each step clearly on the giant LCD screens.

Another significant update to the ReMOTE SL OS is the ability to use Automap and Manual Template modes simultaneously in certain sequencers, including Ableton Live. Within Pro Tools, this means the full power of the SL can be harnessed, with the keyboard becoming a true virtual instrument as well as a dedicated control surface. Switching into Manual mode allows any of the 40+ Templates for popular plug-ins to be accessed, where all of the SL’s assignables are used for a single instrument for complete and focussed control.

Available in three sizes (25-, 37- and 61- key), the ReMOTE SL helps to maximise space and provides an ideal studio centrepiece, from which the producer can play, mix and edit with ease.
